Project from AZO Architects have been awarded with the SIL prize 2021
The headquarters of Castro Group, a project by AZO Arquitectos, was distinguished with the prize for Best Urban Rehabilitation, in the Office category, by the SIL Council (Salão Imobiilário de Lisboa) and by the President of the AIP Foundation (Portuguese Industrial Association).
The winning building, which dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, is located in the heart of the historic centre, in Braga, and is the result of a rehabilitation project that ended in December 2020.
In the main building, all decorative materials were kept entirety, and the recovery of carpentry and metalwork, stucco and gilding, wooden frameworks and stairs, were decisive for the conservation of the general image, characteristic of the pre-existence. The new volumetry, adjacent to the main building and which houses support spaces, was entirely built in exposed concrete in order to allow its integration.

AZO Architects has won the competition for an evocative monument to Arcebishop D. Diogo de sousa
AZO Arquitectos won the competition, promoted by the Braga City Council, for the elaboration of an evocative monument to Archbishop D. Diogo de Sousa. The monument, which will be installed in Campo da Vinha, at the intersection between Rua dos Capelistas and Rua Dr. Justino Cruz, will be an evocation of the religious and secular personality of D. Diogo de Sousa who, through his “visionary door”, opened Braga to the world.
The jury's decision highlights the "rigorous observation of the objectives formulated in the terms of reference, valuing the way in which the awarded work is inserted in the urban context and also for its contemporary expression. The work reflects the timeless dimension of the Archbishop, with a contemporary language but that has a deep aesthetic meaning that intends to have an impact on the place ", adds the councilman responsible for the Heritage area.
